Residents of Kharghar have formed an umbrella body called United Kharghar Action Committee (UKAC), to protest the node's merger with the proposed Panvel Municipal Corporation. The residents have started a signature campaign and awareness programmes.
"About 2,000 housing societies in Kharghar are supporting UKAC. We plan to get the maximum number of signatures. These will be handed over to the state,'' said commander (retired) S H Kalawat, president of Kharghar housing societies federation.
He added that when people bought properties in Kharghar, Cidco had clearly stated that Kharghar will remain an integral part of the city.
